WHAT DOES KING ACADEMY OFFER TO MY CHILD AND FAMILY?
FAQ Image 1 2017 | Frequently Asked Questions

King Academy offers a college-preparatory curriculum instructed by a dedicated and caring faculty and staff. Smaller class sizes, a safe learning environment, a family-oriented atmosphere, and sporting opportunities are just a few of our advantages.

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL’S MISSION?
Statement of Faith Image 2.19.15 | Frequently Asked Questions
The mission of King Academy is to spiritually, academically, and athletically challenge students in a nurturing family environment. Our goal is to prepare students for a lifelong commitment to intellectual achievement and Christian servanthood. As Christians we are called to "Teach a youth about the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

IS KING ACADEMY AN ACCREDITED SCHOOL?
King Academy is accredited by the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) and therefore meets all requirements as mandated by SCISA.

ARE THE TEACHERS CERTIFIED?
FAQ Image 2 2017 | Frequently Asked QuestionsAll teachers have either their teaching certification and/or a four-year college degree. But just as important is the high level of dedication each teacher has to create a supportive and effective learning environment.

IS KING ACADEMY A CHRISTIAN SCHOOL?
King Academy is non-denominational and is not supported financially by any church; however, we do consider ourselves a Christian school. We firmly believe, promote and practice Christian morals, values and standards in all facets of our everyday school life and activities. We integrate our Christianity into our daily teaching by viewing all subject matter through the lens of Christianity. We offer daily classroom devotionals, a Bible class for Middle School students, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade Bible, weekly Elementary Bible enrichment, parent’s prayer group and monthly chapel services, but it’s not our curriculum or a single activity that establishes our Christian foundation – it’s how we interact daily with each other. We choose a Christian approach in our philosophies and manner in which we work together, learn together, and have fun together.

HOW SMALL IS A “SMALL CLASS SIZE”?
We have a total enrollment of 197 students. Our average class size is 13 students. It is important to note that we have a teacher’s aid in Kindergarten. Also, many of our high school classes have multiple sessions. This arrangement enables us to offer a student-teacher ratio of ten to one. We feel that this low student-teacher ratio plus the positive relationships our teachers are able to build with families allows us to maximize student achievement.

WHAT PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS ON THE COLLEGE PREP TRACK
ARE ACCEPTED TO A FOUR YEAR COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY?
FAQ Picture 8 2.20.15 | Frequently Asked Questions
100% of the students on our college prep track are accepted to a four year college or university.

WHAT KINDS OF COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES GRANT ACCEPTANCE TO A KING ACADEMY GRADUATE?
Over the last six years we have had graduates attend USC, Clemson, Wofford, Winthrop, The Citadel, The College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, Columbia College, Lander, USC-Aiken, Newberry, Anderson, Coker, Mississippi State, and Presbyterian College. King Academy will continue to stress the college prep curriculum in our upper school with the goal of producing graduates who are fully prepared for any institution of higher education to which they are accepted. We also award general diplomas and are committed to helping all students find the profession in which they can be successful.

CAN MY CHILD RECEIVE ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS AND/OR SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS
FOR COLLEGE?
Even though King Academy is a small, independent school, many students that have excelled academically and athletically have received significant college scholarship awards.

DO YOU HAVE A LUNCH PROGRAM?
FAQ Picture 6 2.20.14 | Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Our cafeteria staff provides a home-cooked meal every day. Please find a list of items and prices on our website by clicking on "About King" and "Lunch Menu". For convenience purposes, menus are published a week in advance. Of course, students may also bring their lunch from home.

WHAT ARE MY TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS?
While the school does provide transportation for most field trips, extracurricular and athletic events, the school does not provide transportation to and from school for its students. Some families in the surrounding areas car pool together.

DOES THE SCHOOL OFFER BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL CARE?
Most of our families take advantage of our full day kindergarten program. An After School Program for grades K-3 through 12 is offered from 3:00-5:30 pm for a cost of $10 per student per day. If a student is picked up before 4:00pm, the cost will be $5.00 per student per day. Our teachers are in their classrooms by 7:50 am every morning. If students arrive between 7:50 and 8:10 am, they should go directly to their classroom. For students who arrive between 7:30 and 7:50 am, they should go to the gym where there will be staff members to supervise them until 7:50 am. At that time, the staff members will escort them to their classrooms. Families won't have to pay any extra fees for this "before-school care."

IN ADDITION TO SPORTS, ARE THERE OTHER EXTRACURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE?
FAQ Picture 9 2.20.15 | Frequently Asked QuestionsYes. We believe that a variety of extracurricular activities gives students the opportunity to diversify their experiences. This helps create a well rounded student and enables him/her to build a college resume. Ninety percent of our students in grades 6-12 participate in at least one extracurricular activity. Students are active in Student Government, Beta Club, PDF (Public Display of Faith), and FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). In addition to these organizations, our students compete in spelling bees, math meets, quiz bowls, battle of the books, and chess meets.

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES DO I HAVE AS A PARENT TO PARTICIPATE?
Our school welcomes parent input and participation. Volunteering in the school allows parents to get to know the faculty, staff, and other families.
  • We have an active Parents Organization that sponsors the annual Harvest Carnival as well as various fundraising events during the school year. Their efforts provide funds to supplement the needs of our teachers and students.
  • The Booster Club funds 100% of the financial needs of our athletic department. Parents help by working at the gate and concession stands during athletic events.
  • Parents assist with field trips, provide refreshments for class parties, serve as club sponsors, and help in many other ways.

  • This level of involvement allows for greater accessibility to the headmaster and teachers.

DO YOU HAVE A SCHOOL NURSE?

Many families choose to sell ads or products and work on school activities to offset their fees.

WHAT JOBS CAN I PERFORM TO COVER MY WORK CREDIT FEE?
FAQ Image 4 2017 | Frequently Asked Questions
Families may pay the $1,000 fee or work off the $1,000 fee. You will receive credit for volunteer work during the school year. Work credits can include, but are not limited to, working in the concession stands, gate admissions at ball games, work day participation, Harvest Carnival booths, etc. The balance not worked off during the school year will be billed for collection in May.

ARE INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS LIKE KING ACADEMY ONLY FOR THE WEALTHY?

Many alumni send their children to King Academy to gain the educational experiences that they had. Of our current parents, 40% graduated from our school. The school is managed in the most fiscally conservative manner possible to keep tuition affordable for the families of our community. The quality of education is worth the price.
