WKA 2012 Clay Shooting Team

Lady Knights Varsity Wins Two State Championships

The 2012 W. Wyman King Academy Sporting Clays Team had a very good year.  There were 25 team members.  This year's schedule included five tournaments.
In January at Live Oaks in Swansea, the Ladies JV team of Carson Buzhardt, Taylor Rienzo, and Anna Joyce Rodgers won 2nd place medals.  The Ladies JV team of Texanna Miller, Charlie Griffith, and Emily Smith won 3rd place.  The Varsity Girls-Haylea Carter, Samantha Langford, and Haley Rodgers won 1st place.
In February, the teams travelled to the Clinton House in Clinton to compete.  There the Ladies JV team, Charlie Griffith, Taylor Rienzo, and Anna Joyce Rodgers, won 2nd place.  The Ladies JV team of Emily Smith and Carson Buzhardt won 3rd place medals.  The Varsity Girls team of Haylea, Samantha, and Haley also won 2nd place.
In March, the teams were off to Camden and Hermitage Farms.  Once again, the teams brought home medals.  The Ladies JV team kept up their streak of 2nd and 3rd place.  The team of Taylor Rienzo, Anna Joyce Rodgers, and Carson Buzhardt was in 2nd place with Emily Smith and Texanna Miller winning 3rd place.
After finishing in the top five at each of the tournaments, we brought home a boys' win.  The JV Advanced team of Conner Fox, Zane Bedenbaugh, and Dupre McDaniel won 3rd place.
In April, the teams travelled to Rocky Creek in Richburg.  Again, the Ladies JV teams won medals.  The team of Taylor Rienzo, Anna Joyce Rodgers, and Samantha Langford won 1st place.  Texanna Miller and Charlie Griffith picked up the 3rd-place medals.
In May, the teams competed for two state championships.  On May 5, they competed for the South Carolina Youth Shooting Foundation State Championship at Backwoods Quail Club in Georgetown.  The Ladies JV team of Taylor Rienzo, Texanna Miller, and Charlie Griffith won the 1st place State Championship.  Anna Joyce Rodgers, Carson Buzhardt, and Emily Smith won 3rd place.  The Ladies Varsity team of Haylea Carter, Samantha Langford, and Haley Rodgers won the State Championship 1st place.  Haylea Carter won the Ladies High Overall, and Conner Fox won the JV Boys Advanced High Overall medals.  The May 5 State Championship was the largest DNR-sponsored South Carolina high school shoot ever with 372 shooters.
The final competition was the South Carolina Independent School Association State Championship held May 12 at Live Oaks Sporting Club in Swansea.  Again, the Ladies Varsity team did not disappoint.  Haylea Carter, Samantha Langord, and Haley Rodgers brought home the State Championship trophy.
The boys also shot well.  The competition in these categories was fierce.  Rounding out the boys' teams were Josh Hinton, Curt Johnson, Wyatt Oswalt, Logan Stone, Alex Berry, Hunter DuBose, Blake Lybrand, Steven Gray, Lane Bedenbaugh, Wyatt McDonald, Nathaniel Easler, Ben Buzhardt, Price Carpenter, and Kaleb Meyer.   Congratulations to our 2012 Clay Shooting Team for a very successful season!
